New terrarium
I have glued all the panels now with plexiglass glue and well I just have a couple questions. This is for a Female BCI just so that you all know.
1. How long should I let it air out before I put her in it?
2. What should Basking temps be on the actual ground?
3. What is a good Ambient air temp?
4. Is a 7x2x2 a big enough encloser for the rest of her life?
Any help with these questions would be much appreciated. Right now I have her in a 40 gallon long with Basking temps at 90 Ambient. From what I got that is correct I just want to make sure. Kind of to make sure my brain isn't steering me wrong kind of.
Thanks,
Victor

Re: New terrarium
Well, if you have an UTH or flexwatt or some underbelly heat source of some kind, it should be about 90. The ambient temp on the hot side in general should be 88... and the cool side high 70s-80.
7x2x2 is pllleeeeeeeeeeeeeenty big... that will do her for life.

Re: New terrarium
You don't have a whole lot of height so that will change things quite a bit. For ambient (air temps checked with a digital thermometer) you want between 80-86F. For a basking surface, you want a surface the whole snake can fit on, and a surface temp (checked with a temp gun) of 100+F.
For your particular set up I would make a 24" x 24" section where your CHE is, the hot spot, then put in smaller wattage lights the length of the cage so the cool spot does not get too cool.

Re: New terrarium
On the Mach run Yesturday. I had the air temps on the warm side of 91 and the cold side was 76 without any lights running down the sides. That is with a Thermostat on the CHE set for 91 degrees. The surface temp of the hot spot was only 88 though.

You are checking with a temp gun correct? If so then put in a 24" x 24" x 1.5" paving stone or flat rock to elevate the basking area, a 1"-1.5" thick piece of wood will work also. The cool side sounds fine, just be sure if it gets below 75F you add another light. I like to put one in just in case and turn it on if I need it.
