Need some advice in a hard situation

I have had two corns and two red tail boas for a few years now. I had a custom cabinet made to house two boaphile plastics cages one foot off the ground with storage space underneath. Cost me $300 flat. After the unfinished cabinet was in and had the snakes in it my fiance says they goto go......

Reason for her not liking the snakes. The boas are sorta unfriendly. They always think food is outside the door even though once I get a hold of them they are fine when going into the feeding boxes. I've taking such great care for these guys but I choose my fiance between the two.

So please any advice would be great. If they leave my care I want someone responsible to get them. If there is an easier way to tame them please let me know so I can see if that will help the situation.

Thank you all so much!
~Chase

Tell your fiance it's her fault because she smells like rats.

Oh, and welcome to the site.

No it wasn't that. She just never told me in general until a wee bit too late. But I love her. She is just scared of them. I can handle them fine they just like to strike at the front when anything moves outside there cage.

Re: Need some advice in a hard situation

Long ago I did that, gave away a snake because a guy didn't like it. I've always regretted it, the snake was better than he was.

Now, if an ultimatum is forced on me, I leave. Someone who loves me would not have me put away the things I like.

I can though understand hesitancy and even fear from those who are not into reptiles. Is it possible to put a lock on the cage so your fiance would not fear that they would somehow get out when you were not there?

She should trust that when you are there, you would make sure she would not be harmed whether your reptiles were in or out of the cage.

No, I cannot make your decisions, these are just thoughts from when I made mine, and I offer them to you.

Re: Need some advice in a hard situation

ummm...man...thats a hard one...if the ol lady dont like em tell her she doesnt have to deal with em...

look at it like this...she probably has things in her life that dont appeal to u...but u accept them...that doesnt mean u need to participate....and the same goes for her...just becaus eu like snakes and she doesnt...she needs to accept that and not participate if she doesnt want to

either way...if yer gettin rid of the snakes...i will gladly take 1 or 2 off yer hands i got plenty of room and im single heheh...so lemme know

Re: Need some advice in a hard situation

It's not that she wants me to get them gone right away it's that she has just never liked them. She loves me and I respect that she just simply doesn't lie them. The are boaphile cages so they are snake proof and all that.

It's like someones dislike towards spiders but not fear.

Re: Need some advice in a hard situation

I bet you if she had a dog you didn't like, she would never give it away despite your objections. Pets are part of the family, be it a spider or a dog or a snake or whatever. It's not the capability of the animal that makes people like/love them, it's their intrinsic value.

Re: Need some advice in a hard situation

You'd love them too. The boas are striped and one has a beautiful reverse stripe. I'll get some pics to show you all soon. And then my blood red corn is absolutely stunning.

Unless the dog was kept tied up and tried to bite him every time he walked by.

Re: Need some advice in a hard situation

Well currently I'm in a one bedroom condo. So it's hard to avoid the snakes.

How about this. How can I make them less agitated? I feed them almost weekly and I don't do live. They handle well in your hands just not up front.

Re: Need some advice in a hard situation

Just handle them more, I have a Peruvian boa that was feisty when I got him, now he is dog tame.
