Re: Soaking In Water
People have differences of opinion on this. So ill give you my 2 cents. If your temps are right and you see no mites then soaking is fine. Prolonged (1+ days) Is usually a symptom of the afore mentioned things. Over half of my adult boas will spend some time soaking usually before going to the bathroom. Nearly all my baby boas will take a swim and usually i will find feces in the dish shortly afterwards.

Re: Soaking In Water
I've yet to see mine soak. Full body anyway. I have seen her leave just her neck in the water , or maybe a couple of inches of her mid to low body. But I never seen her just get full in and soak. I find that odd, but maybe its not. i dunno

Re: Soaking In Water
Mine hardly ever do but when they do for longer then a day they have mites even if you can't see them they have them. Or your temp gradient is completly off. My snake during the day is usually in the middle gradient. Sometimes in her water bowl just doesn't stay in there for long.

Re: Soaking In Water
Mine soaks a lot and loves her water but does not have mites at all, I have checked that out thoroughly.
I had one that hardly ever soaked at all.
As has been said, always check temps and for mites when they soak a lot, that's important.

Re: Soaking In Water
Mites and shedding problems, heat problems are things to look for if a lot of soaking is going on. Or, they just like to soak.

Re: Soaking In Water
my boa has never soaked full body
one time she had hear rear half soaking for a bit and then left me a nice surprise!
what everyone else has said is pretty spot on
i assume you're providing hides, but just to throw it out there...
alot of time boas with no hides (especially see this in pet stores)
will soak to try and feel secure

Re: Soaking In Water
My snake never soaked until she had mites and now every now and again she will soak and sometimes i find a little log floating afterwards.
Check temps and for pepper in your waterdish.

Re: Soaking In Water
I have 4 boas and 2 od them LOVE to soak...all day...most days.
The other 2....rarely.
All in all, I'd say....whatever's clever.
