Alaskan Leopard Gecko Questions.
First post! :D
Anyways, I have a question about substrate for my leopard gecko. I currently have him in a 15 gallon tank with cage carpet, and was wondering about using tile, because I've read about it a few times since browsing the forum.
What are the advantages of using tile, and what kind of tile is best? Should there be anything under the tile, like sand or something to level it out?
Also, I've read that belly heat is best for leopard geckos, and the main source of heat in his tank is a 75watt "spot bulb," getting the warm side to about 90F and the cool end at 76F; without the light it peaks at 80F on the warm side. Would it be better to just upgrade his heating pad to allow for more floor heat, and get a smaller wattage light? That's partially why I was considering tile, since I've heard it heats up much more effectively than cage carpet, and also retains that heat for a while.
Oh, and is there a "better" side of the tank to but his humid hide? I currently have it on the warm side because I'm scared that it will get too cold otherwise, and he'll just end up not using it as a result.
Aaand is there anything wrong with uping his enclosure to a 20 gallon tank? Would the space stress him out? I'm just curious about it because I'm trying to give his home a vivarium-esque feel, and it's hard to do much in a 15.
Sooo many newb-ish questions at once. Sorry, lol. I'd really appreciate some help, 'cause this is my best bet for answers from reliable, EXPERIENCED keepers. There aren't many people to talk to up here in Alaska about herps that I know of. Go figure, heh.
Thanks in advance! :D
P.S- Sorry if I'm asking questions that have been covered a dozen times.
