odd behavior (Carpet Python)
well, just recently i have noticed that my carpet python has developed a little bit of a twitch.. and was just curious about what the problem could be.. he seems as if he's ver stiff, wondering if constipation could be a factor or something else.. he seems to be quite calm, and suddenly his head will jerk 1-3 times to the side very quickly.. and at random times, when he is moving about his cage, is seems as though he is struggling a little bit.. he is aproxx 7 feet long, and roughly 4 years old. can anyone give me any advice?

Re: odd behavior (Carpet Python)
There's a few things, all requiring a vet except a vitamin B deficiency. I'm not going to even guess. I'm not being cold or stubborn but if it were my snake I'd take it to a vet soon and I believe you'll be glad you did, should get good results I think. Surely you'll get more input than me though.

Re: odd behavior (Carpet Python)
only sad thing is, the nearest veteranarian in my area is like.. 4 hours away that is willing to deal with snakes, so if anyone is rather knowledgeable in iether Resperitory infections (BCI), and if need be, i can get a video clip of what my Jungle Carpet python is doing, just so you can see a little better what his symptoms are... please, if anyone at all has any idea's as to what i can do naturally to help my snakes out, or if there are any products that i can get ahold of, i would greatly appreciate it

Re: odd behavior (Carpet Python)
What your describing has nothing to do with respitory infection. Here's your possibilities, 1 Septicemia, bacteria in the blood. 2 Encephalitus. 3 Toxicity. 4 Parasite migration. 5 vitamin B1 defiecency. Theirs people on the forumn that could probably give a good guess by hearing about the symptoms, it's a little slow today, but those same people will probably say, make the drive, maybe not.
That twitching thing isn't good. I've already given you more info than I'm qualified too, I'm just reading out of "What's wrong with my snake?" I've never encountered those symptoms before.

Re: odd behavior (Carpet Python)
the respiratory infection is in my BCI, not my python.. sry i should have made that a little more clear.
the symptoms described are in my python.. i was just using this thread so it was easier for me to check up on any information

Re: odd behavior (Carpet Python)
If it's a mild case raising the temperature could be enough, at least a 90 degree spot for it. I'm not sure what they say about humidity, I think about 60% would be about right. That's a little dryer. If the cage is at all dirty clean it very good with the 10% bleach solution, rinse and dry very good before returning it to the cage. Make sure it's in a smoke free inviroment with no air bourne irritants. I've heard in many cases this is enough.
I'd really like to stay informed about that python, I've never crossed that before but I don't think I'm over reacting about the vet on that one. Good luck.

Re: odd behavior (Carpet Python)
maybe i was just worrying too much he seems to be doing fine
could this be an un-natural behavior caused by pre-shed?

Re: odd behavior (Carpet Python)
Not sure, I've seen them rub their nose and face across the carpet. Their a little tense during a shed, luke warm water helps for a perfect shed too. My sisters a school teacher and I had a stretch where she was wanting perfect sheds off of 6' to 12' snakes. Worked great.

Re: odd behavior (Carpet Python)
Very nice snake. You can run your water deeper and he'll completely submerge maybe. I soak mine in a really big tub and they'll duck their heads and go around in a circle. They think their hidden in that clear water, they'll be in there with just their noses sticking out and when I come back in the room they'll submerge.
He really is a good looking snake.
