Re: Always hiding....
Well I have had a hide in for two days and she still burrows so I think she just likes to burrow cuz she hasn't touched the hide.

Re: Always hiding....
I don't know much about caging but hides are great ways to reduce stress and the mental problems with being held captive by a primate. I get rid of hides once the animals eat well, grow well and become used to me (usually around 1 year or more in my care).

Re: Always hiding....
That makes sense. Well now that she pooed in the old substrate (coconut shavings) that she came with in the cage, I switched her to aspen b/c thats what they had. Now she uses the hide instead of burrowing. Thats what I wanted, I hope thats what she wanted too. Thanks for all your help everyone.

Re: Always hiding....
she probably wasn't using the hide right away because it was new.
my boa is very untrusting of new things haha.
it usually takes here a week or two to get used to new cage furniture.

Re: Always hiding....
Put the water on the cool side in the furthest back corner. Then see if you can fit two of those hides in, one on the cool side and one on the hot side. You also could make a retes stack for the hot side.

Re: Always hiding....
Google it in images. They were intended for snakes but now are used a ton in monitor cages.

Re: Always hiding....
Also while I can't advocate analog temperature gauges or hygrometers, I've always found them to be up to 15% humidity or 5 degrees off. I would invest in a FLukers Digital Hygrometer/Thermometer, or get a temperature gun ideally.
For now, though, you'll want the thermometer and hygrometer closer to the gorund, where the snake is. There's a big difference in 6".
