I have just built my first set of melamine cages for my babies. Now that thy are built, silicone and almost ready to use minus one thing, what kind of heat do I use for them. Someone out there has to know a good way to heat these things

Re: What kind of heat for Melamine cages???
well it depends. If you have a decent ambient air temp in the room where the cage is, I'd just put a piece of flexwatt or some sort of heat strip and call it good.
If the temps in the room are a little lower, Radiant Heat Panels work quite well too.
What are the temps in the room? That will help determine what is best.

Re: What kind of heat for Melamine cages???
Temps range between 77-80 during the day and about 70 at night. Flexwatt isnt available anywhere close to me so I was thinking about heat mats and substrate over that.

Re: What kind of heat for Melamine cages???
Seems like that's what everyone recommends. Would the pads work for now until I can get some flexwatt shipped or should I just wait? Also I just purchased a 06 Snow last saturday and she still hasnt ate, smae with my male albino who I have had for 2 weeks. Any suggestions on this?

Re: What kind of heat for Melamine cages???
They would work, but if you are going to order the flex then i'd just wait. Why waste the money, you know? No snakes are in there at the moment right?

Re: What kind of heat for Melamine cages???
No but I already have all the mats. I am leaving town Thurs of next week for 10 days and wanted to go ahead and get htem set up and hopefully get them to eat before i leave. My pastel has no problems eating but the snow and albino are just not wanting to eat at all.

Well if you have the mats already then I don't see why not, as long as you can get the correct temps going before you leave.

Re: What kind of heat for Melamine cages???
I actually have 2 thermostats, one is hooked up now with them. Should I hook up both of them on a 3 stack of cages or will 1 do the job? Do you have any idea why my new bci's will not eat? I posted a few things about htem in this thread, any help would be appreciated

Re: What kind of heat for Melamine cages???
as long as you set up all the cages the same way, you can use one thermostat.
How much have you interacted with them since you have had them? How big are they? Is there a lot of traffic that goes by them? What types of accessories do you have in their cages? What are the temps currently in their cages?

Re: What kind of heat for Melamine cages???
I have held the albino male once, got bit in the process and the snow has been handled several times. The albino is around 18-20 inches, he was born in early july and the snow is about 2 1/2 to 3 feet. Cage temps are about 90 on the hot side and about 83 on the cool side. They are in separate cages. Traffic is non existant other than me. They are in a room with bearded dragons but thats it.

Re: What kind of heat for Melamine cages???
They may just need more time to adjust. Do you know when the last time they were fed? Maybe just leave them alone for several days and try again.

Re: What kind of heat for Melamine cages???
The snow was last fed on August 27th and the Albino was on the 28th. I thought the same but I have not touched either of them for a week and they still wont eat. They are both due a shed according to their feed/shed cards so maybe thats it. Dunno just keep tryin I guess

Re: What kind of heat for Melamine cages???
I'd just leave them alone for like a week or so and try it again. Might just be the stress from the move

Re: What kind of heat for Melamine cages???
Also may be from unscrupulous sellers trying to make a buck. Just wait a week or so before trying to feed them again.
