First Snake But I Did Not Buy It.
I just got a new snake, and i have almost no idea what to do. It's a tiny pine snake my science teacher gave because she did not now what to do with it. I need help. What do i feed it? It's too small for pinky mice and i can't get those anyway. I bought a heat loamp, and an undertank pad.

Re: First Snake But I Did Not Buy It.
let me guess a wild caught snake baby. Well try feeding it crickets and worms, if it doesn't eat with in a couple days I would let it, babies need to eat almost everyother day or a good chance they will die. But I would try those for food good luck.

Re: First Snake But I Did Not Buy It.
Pine snakes are kept much the same way as cornsnakes and rat snakes. It should be able to take a day old pinky or if not, cut off the head and legs and feed it that. If you don't have access to pinkies you either need to release it back into the wild, or you need to get it to someone that can properly care for it. They can go for quite a while without food, but it will need it soon. If it's that small, it's probably just hatched, but even my smallest corn hatchlings can take a day old. They can take bigger prey than you think. Crickets and worms are not a pine snakes normal food. If anything it would take small lizards as first prey but I'd stay away from those as they carry large amounts of parasites. Heat lamp is not necessary. Just the UTH with a thermostat. Hot side 84, cool low 70's. Hides, water, and perhaps aspen bedding. Where did the teacher get it? Where are you located? You should be able to get pinkies somewhere. Even petsmart sells frozen pinkies. They are expensive but will get you going until you can order more. I don't feed my hatchlings until after their first shed which is about a week after they hatch as they have yolk to live on. After that I feed every 4-5 days. No more than that. Babies in the wild would go even longer between meals and babies can go a longer time than you think. Feel free to e-mail me personally or call me. My number should be on my website.

Re: First Snake But I Did Not Buy It.
I'm probably going to relase it. The nearest Petsmart is 3 hours away, and no petstores closer than that sell pinkies. I know how to take care of snakes i've just never delt with something this small before.
Well, it's probably best if i relaese it...
I'm in wiasconson by the way.

unfortinatly no. Our spy sweeper is out of date and my dad is a procrastinator and refuses to update it.
I live up in birchwood. About 30 mins away from rice Lake or Hayward. Remote. We yhave 200 acres open to us, 40 of it ours, so i'm sure i could find a place to put him. He's preety and i wish i diddent have to.
Oh yes and Jem Scout, i'd love to talk to you if you live somewhere in wisconson, and are one of the few pepole around here that arn't scared to death by my love of reptiles.
