Re: no heat lamp
I would suggest that a heat pad designed for humans' sore muscles would be a good thing to raise the temps until you can get back to normal. Make sure you read the label though... many of them come with an automatic shutoff feature and it kind of defeats the purpose.

Re: no heat lamp
First, let me say I'm not trying to bust your chops here. I'm trying to be helpful.
Blown bulbs and such are foreseeable events in herp keeping and have to be prepared for. If you can't get a bulb for a week, it's going to be important for you to keep an extra on hand in the future, because I can guarantee, you'll have more blown bulbs. These animals don't do well with a week of inadequate husbandry, so be prepared for contingencies so you don't put the animal in crisis, and you don't have to lose sleep over it.
I hope everything works out for you and your snake.

Re: no heat lamp
thanks for the replies. i appreciate its a silly mistake not to have spares around, i was planning on going out on weds when i get paid and buying new substrates and a few bits and another bulb was on the list.
i guess it must be down to newbie nievety!!
anyway if i need to i can get one tomorrow from a store further away, its just the one near to me hasnt got any until weds. guess im up for a drive in the morning.
would i be better getting a CHE to replace the red bulb? i guess the CHE wont blow as easily as a bulb with an element? im using a zoomed bulb holder on a thermostat, on top of an exoterra 24x24.
thanks

Re: no heat lamp
just another idea for a temporary heat source ( though its a little out of season now) are winter hand and toe warmers. most of them last between 12-24 hours depending on how well insulated the cage is

Re: no heat lamp
I also keep a supply of the hand/foot warmers around for just these kinds of emergencies. I used to get them at the army/navy surplus store. Then I found out Walmart has them for about 60 cents each. They're also good portable heating for when you have to take your snake to the vet.
