adopt a baby RES
One of my friends decided it would be cool to buy those cute little baby red eared sliders for her little brother from NYC, where the same guys that sell the knock-off purses sell the turtles illegally and tell people they stay 3 inches long. Shes got two of them, which are already not being properly cared for and I have already tried to get her to give them up. She is only willing to give up the smaller one, which is being picked on by the larger one. I dont know too much about red ear sliders but I know enough to set up the little one properly for the time being. Does anyone know of a rescue group or is anyone willing to take the turtle? I am in union county, NJ. Ill keep him as long as I have to, but Id rather someone with more experience take him. Please help! Thanks.

Re: adopt a baby RES
I'd be willing to take him as long as you know how to do the shipping... lol I ain't gonna drive there.
I rescued a pair of baby red-eared sliders a few years ago in highschool... a student had brought them in for my science teacher's viv. She didn't know how to care for them properly or what they really needed and she didn't have the right setup for them, so she said I could take them, since the student was a big skipper and rarely seen... she said not to bring them back. lol
The little guys were very sick, but they perked up quickly once they were given a good basking spotlight with heat and good food... and they really turned around and have grown a lot since then.
As you can see in my signature, I have lots of turtles, but always willing to take more in that need homes. It's no problem.

Re: adopt a baby RES
Well i just found out the smaller one died today, but she is going to give me the other one. Its horrible that it died, but now at least Ill take the other one and ill know she wont have another one to torture. Im going to pick it up this evening, I just have a temporary large rubbermaid set up with a basking area and a mercury vapor bulb for heat and uv. Ive never shipped anything live, only received. Ill research it and any other info on this site for help and ill let you know when i get him this evening how he is.

Re: adopt a baby RES
Aw, sorry the little one died... Little turtle babies are fragile like that when they don't get the heat and uv they need. I'm glad you've got a MVB for the other right now.
There should be a thread here somewhere (i'll have to search for it) based on shipping with FedEx or how to ship...

Re: adopt a baby RES
UPS no longer ships reptiles. Do not use them as it won't be legal. It takes a bit to get set up with Fed Ex and if you should have problems getting your rep to help you, let me know. My old rep is well versed in setting up for reptile shipping and he has willingly helped various people I've referred to him. Or, perhaps there is someone on one of the forums near you that could ship for you. If I was closer, I'd do it for you...but alas, I'm in SC.
