**Ignore this if it has already been discussed. I'm fairly new, lol.**
Since Halloween is coming up, black light bulbs are cheap ( $0.99 at Big Lots), and they are the same wattage and output as the "EXO Terra" Moonlight lamp that costs $8. My expensive moonlight went out last night so I replaced it with one of my wife's Halloween black lights just to experiment. Its the same wattage, and put out MORE heat. Just a thought. Personally, for nocturnal species, I have always used cheap black or red lights. I have never noticed a problem, I don't know much about the actual differences in output, I just looked at temps. Nice having Rheostats

Hmmm... Everything I have seen on the cheapos says that they are a spectrum that can lead to damage to reptiles eyes in the long run.

I heard recently of using automotive spay paint on household globes,(red/blue paint, the type used on engine blocks)
, heat resistant so it shouldn't peel or flake .Doesn't give any UVA/UVB benefits of course ,
any thoughts on this??
