Iguana - MBD?
I've got a three year old green iguana, I got her in August of 2003..
Anyways, I recently ( two months ago ) moved her into a new 'escape proof' cage that I built, because she was constantly getting out of her old one.
She tries and tries and tries to find a way out, and can't. she actually rubbed her lower jaw a little bit too much and got a small sore.. either way, this is quite common..
A couple of days ago, I noticed the right side of her nose had a small bump on it, I thought it was just some shed skin that had sort of lifted off of her and appeared to be a bump of some sort..
It's bigger now, and I am fearing that it would be MBD. It doesn't feel abnormal. It's not 'squashy' or 'soft' it feels just like the rest of her, and she doesn't seem to mind me touching it.. I'm not sure what all of that means. I'm just asking that the rtb community take a look at these pictures I took and see if you have any advice..

Does it look like MBD to you, or could it be that she caused some swelling by trying to get out of the cage?
Thanks guys.

Well actually MBD normaly shows up more in the lower jaw. However it is not unheard of to show up in the upper. I thinkt that what u have there is an abscess and it needs to be drained basically a vet will lance it , drain the fluid pack it with some antibiotics and your on your way. It could also be from rubbing and in that case she may be loosening up the scales. reguardless of which it is she needs to see a vet pronto. How big is her enclosure. if it is too small that will mostly be the reason for her to rub like that.

Her enclosure is smaller than her last one.
The reason for it is because I moved out of my parents place, and needed a cage that would fit in my new one. However, she get's more free roam time here than she could have ever dreamed of at my parents (they were uncomfortable with it) so I figured that space wouldn't be too much of an issue.
This cage I built for her is actually built RIGHT this time. Plenty of heat, tons of uvb, and lots of climbing areas.
She really only rubs her face when I'm in the room, atleast I think. I think it's more of a .. "Hey, I see you out there.. come let me out to play." rather than a "This cage is way too small, jerk."
But hey! I could be wrong.

Yeah but the problem is when the cage is too small they get all cramped up and start to stress out kinda like being closterphobic and they rub to try to get out. Any way I am pretty sure that is a abscess My first ig got them pretty often. If you dont watch out they will grow out of controll pretty quickly I would suggest that you get her to a vet soon make an appointment as soon as possible or sooner and they can take care of it while it is still small.

Okay, just curious..
How much was your typical bill for an abscess? I was just quoted $200+.. I find that a little extreme, no?

That looks like an abscess. I feel that it is also not allowing her to breath properly as it looks to have taken over he nostril which is the main way they breath. I can also see that she is rubbing her nose and face alot. Thats not good and she will just reopen the cut and it will never heal after its drained. Id suggest for your situation free roaming. Make sure you Ig proof your home first. You can just leave the cage door open so she can come and go when she wants. I dont know much on vet prices sorry.

Hello
Hello,
Just wondering if you had any updates on your iggy for us? It definitely looks like an absess & definitely needs treatment before it spreads too far.
Let us know how things are going.
