Hi guys I was wondering how to get the right humidity in Lillies den? I have her water near the heat light and some dri moss on the covering of her den. Is this all I need? I have been reading about how important it is for snakes bodies to get moisture. How do you know when you have the right amount of humidity? Lillie is doing great! She is now 21 in long and is putting a little weight on.

Get a humidity gauge. No way to be positive without one.

First off, the moss should be damp, not dry. Wash it in warm/hot water, then wring out the excess before putting it into the enclosure (to get rid of any buggies). Mist the moss down good every day to hold the humidity. If there is a screen top you can place a warm, damp towel over part of it as well. And as Devin said, definitely get a hygrometer.

seeing as this post is about humidity...how much humidity is good? im gunna pick up a gauge next week when i get paid, right now ive just been misting quite often, have a bowl of water on the cool side and one ontop of the heating pad (that ends up evaporating within a couple days so must be working) and the towel trick ldydrgn mentioned.

Humidity should be no less than 40% to 60%. I use two water dishes, one on the cool side and one on the hot side (the one on the hot side is for humidity only, the heat slowly vaporizes the water, increasing humidity). On dry days, I take a towel and put it over the screen, this also holds the humidity in the viv. You can get a thermometer/hygrometer from radio shack that digitally measures temps in two places (great for hot side and cool side) for around $30 , well worth it.

hey

never forget the trusty 99cent spray bottle!

also, if its a screened top- cover half- to 75 % of it with seran wrap (leaving room for the heating element) this will slow air flow keeping the tank a lil more humid.

i personally keep my entire room at 70 % humidity and i mist the snakes when they are in shed.

misting works wonders!

good luck!

I read on another forum that a guy bought a humidifier for the humidity in the cage. You could keep the overall room humidity, or you could do just the cage if you have only one. If you do only one...remove the top nozzle, get a piece of hose to run from that hole to the hole you're going to cut in the side of the cage. As far as the technical of attaching, etc...I'm not sure. But he put it on a timer to run for about 5 mins at a time. From what I've found, using your imagination will result in some good fixes.
