UV Lighting Question
Does anyone know if Metal Halide Lighting can produce correct amounts of UV light? I have a russian tortoise and a red-footed tortoise in a seperated 6x10 foot enclosure with a 400 watt metal halide about 6 feet up. I think I've seen them used in zoos but I wasn't for sure.
Any advice on how to properly light a large area would be appriciated!

Im not so sure, but I do know most halide bulbs have a UV coating to block most of the UV output.
thats about as helpful as I can be...

no --when I investigated the possibilites I found that they are not a good choice for indoor reptile UVB reproduction.
I would stick with reptileuv.com or trex

check out the meter readers forum at yahoo...I bought mine there. For advice I would appeal to Bob MacCargar...he's the lighting God of the internet.
