Your going to want them to be dry, or you will get a bunch of sap in your oven.
As for baking them, I bake my drift wood at 350 for a half hour or so... keep a close eye on it, heat + wood = fire

What I do is get drift wood from a near by river. If you can get to a near by bridge crossing a river go under it and you can get how ever much drift wood you want and cut it to size. Normally the stuff from the river looks nicer because it is a root ball.
Just be careful not to get pine or cedar. Cedar is easy to tell because of its distinct red color also pine and cedar normally will give off an odder.I have never seen these when getting drift wood but just to let you know it is there, just careful.
I bake my drift wood at 400 degrees for 45 minutes

I'd bet it's the same as a pork loin for killing bacteria so 180 degrees for an extended period would kill any parasites. If you get the oven to that temp, the biggest danger would be your wood catching fire. Or you could soak it in a bucket with 10%bleach/90% water....
Either would do the trick.
