What kind of reptile? Small/baby snakes have been known to become stressed if given a large enclosure without much security (hide spots, cover, etc). They can refuse food or have a fiesty temperment. Larger snakes, like Boas, Burms and Retics have been known to become more territorial and protective if given a huge enclosure (some people give these animals entire rooms, closets, etc.). As far as lizards or other reptiles, I'm not sure.

a 6 foot boa is not likely to be stressed from having too much cage. The biggest concern would be to properly heat it and keep humidity at a reasonable level.

well right now she is in a 55 gal fish tank and i cant keep the heat up because of the glass so I figured that i would bulid her a habitat that is 4ft tall 3ft long and 2 ft deep so that she will have plenty of room to exercise when im not here. Im the only snake lover in the family no one else wants to touch her

That won't work. Think out, not up. She needs floor space, not height. What you are proposing would be too tall and still cramped. 6x2 would be better and a better height would be 12-16 inches. Even the ever popular 2 feet high design is wasted space/overkill and just harder to heat but a 2 foot high cage isn't so bad if you put a shelf in it so it's like 2 floors. At 4 foot high, you won't ever keep it heated properly.

That would be a decent sized enclosure, not too big at all. Though if she grows to say, 8', one with 4' x 2' (or more) of floor space would be better.
