What did you treat the cat with? I used to have a lot of problems untill I started using Revolution about 2 years ago and didn't have to treat anything else. The fleas died just from the cats and dogs laying on the carpet. It also treats heart worms and regular worms at the same time. I only have to use it once per year and it will last all year!

I feel your pain. We went through the exact same thing earlier this summer and have finally gotten rid of the fleas. We also have a cage that is not moveable, so we had to figure out some way of safely taking care of the fleas without harming the upstairs snake. (I will mention now that we have 4 cats and about 45 snakes.)
I would start off by getting something like Advantage or Revolution for the cats. I would not go for the over-the-counter stuff because it's not nearly as effective. The cost is around $10/month/cat (at least from my experience). While that takes care of the fleas on the cats and will slowly take care of those in the house, do a household treatment just to get rid of them efficiently. I would use a powder that can be spread everywhere and vacumed up. We have hardwood floors, so I dusted the floor with it and then vacumed. This should kill the majority of them. What's left will die, so if you see a few here and there, don't be alarmed.
What we discovered was that they were breeding in the snake cage. I do not know how big your snakes are, so this might be a little more difficult. I would do a complete cleaning of their cage just to make certain that there aren't any living in there.
Good luck.

Try Black Knight it works "wonders"... maybe keep a bottle handy and treat (atleast) the room that your cage is in. Read Tony Basica's review "Black Knight vs. Provent-A-Mite... it tells you some great things about this product.
In any case-- good luck taking care of the fleas.

The safest way to kill fleas in the carpet with no danger to your snake is to get a bag of 5% SEVINDUST from your local Lowes or Walmart and sprinkle it all over the carpet...you can rub it on your cat too and wash it off or brush it off....it is safe even if the cat licks it. then after a few hours...vacuume the carpet. Make sure it is the 5% formula and not the 10%. 5% is marketed for killing fleas and ticks on pets and in kennels.....and it is also widely used safely for killing mites on reptiles. you can put it directly on the snakes or mammals without any negative side effects...so treating the carpets, sofas, chairs etc will eradicate without harming any of your animals. If you happen to have any tarantulas or hissing cockroaches etc for pets....or any frogs...you will need to move them out of the room for awhile though....bugs and frogs of any kind do not do well with any pesticides. As an added bonus, you will also kill off any dust mite population in the area or any unnoticed snake mites.

Heya,
Well, the only logical choices are to either get a a bag of SEVINDUST or something - like Julius said, or place the snake in a new enclosure somewhere else and bomb the house with pesticide.

The over the counter stuff also has permethrins and or permethrin based.
If you know what POM is then you'll understand that permethrins are deadly for herps.
Which means not safe to use.....
Advantage is safe when used as instructed on the other animals.

I can't say if it's safe with your cats but Black Knight rocks...it'll kill anything with more than 4 legs from what I've heard and I sprayed it once on my snake and the mites are gone. I'll bet it works just as good on fleas.
