This recent dried shed is hanging off my wifes neck. She had to stand on a stool because she was too short. "Daisy" is only a bit over 8', but that shed is 10' 8'' long. Do all the sheds stretch that much?

Oh yeah!
Depends mainly on the snake species etc.
sheds generally do stretch a LOT since the scales are two sided and you don't see the underside until you see the shed stretched out.
The Jack Russel balancing the check book for ya yet?

Oh yeah... she's 14 months old and somethin' else. Never had a dog like her before.
She's like a combination kangaroo, ferret, raccoon, greyhound, doberman, your very best friend, a horny lover and Albert Einstein... all rolled into one!

BWSmith...years ago, I used to have a 'few' timber rattlers and I don't remember their sheds stretching much. Does the keeled scales vs the smooth scales make much of a difference in how much the sheds stretch?

eddie... What I meant to say was if she wants some lovin'...she's gonna' get some. If she wants to play...you will play.

Geez, Payeager - do you own the dog or vice versa?
Back on topic, i don't know if the scale difference affects the shed, but every boa shed i've seen (and hanging out with Morti, i've seen a lot) has been considerably longer and bigger around than the snake in question.

Thanks for the info on the boa sheds. A friend of mine has a 4' boa and her shed was close to 7'.

Actually (in myown experience), I have not seen nearly as much stretching in vipers as I have colubrids. I have had corals that shed out much longer, but the rattler, copper, etc sheds have been fairly consistant. Perhaps keeled scales have something to do with it since they are shedding "with the grain." Perhaps there is less resistance on the shed skin, thus not producing as much friction and stretching. Don't know, But I will be sure to log some results.
