I have done the ventral scale count and the scale count from the vent to the tail, but exactly how do you do the midbody scale count? Do you split the difference of the complete length of the snake? From first ventral scale halfway to the vent? All the way to the end of the tail?

Maybe this will help out a bit!

Scale counting

By the way, this is one of the more confusing ones for me at times as some have differing ideas how it's done.
Me? I just say if it's a beaut, enjoy it.

Thanks a lot, eddie!

I wanted to do all the scale counts myself and try and figure out what my lil' girl (8'+) is for sure. I've had her since she was born (about 5 years), but only knew that she was a boa constrictor. I have received some good information from the folks here on RTB, but never had the scale counts to go with the pics. Now I do.

What do ya' think she is? She has pinks/purples in her color also. BCI/BCC mix?
Ventral scale count-244
midbody count-88
subcaudal count-54
saddles-20

Looks like a BCI to me. Kinda looks like my little girl Sheba. I'm with Eddie on this If you like it who cares. The only time I would be concerned with scale count is when spending big money on a BCC. Even then A real nice BCC stands out if you put it next to a BCI.

Oh, I like her...just never knew what she was. Back when I got her, the guy just said that she was a 'female baby boa' and that was all I knew.
