Ok guys, I have another question. Why does my snake just lay in one place in his cage? He doesn't ever seem to move unless we take him out of the cage. I have never seen him get in his water bowl. He seems to just lay on the one end, either in his little cave type thing curled up or just outside of it either curled up or stretched out a little. I never see him move around. Ahh the tortured life of a snake.
Either the snake (you didnt specify what kind of snake it is)
is nocturnal,
by nature a not very active species,
or it is too cold or too warm.
Some species of snake, (Ball pythons, and bushmasters come to mind) that just do not move all that much, and its only when they really need to.

I think they get to a certain size and they just figure, why move if I dont have to...it's part of what allows them to only eat once every week or two.

He probably moves around at night, at least a little. None of mine do much during the day, usually. But in the morning they aren't right where they were when I went to bed, and once in a while I hear them knocking things around in there in the middle of the night. As for the water dish -- some boas soak, some don't. I have one that does pretty often, two that will only soak the night before they take a dump and then only sometimes, and one who I've never seen in the water. Preference...

I'll second, third or fourth what everyone else has said. Our girl Ayasha doesn't _seem_ to be that active.. we don't usually see her moving around, but I know she moves back and forth a lot at night. She has a 4x2x2 viv with a shelf in the middle, and she goes from top to bottom and back, usually without us seeing her move.
She gets more active when we have her out handling her, but when we take her back to the cage, she goes back to one of her hides and the cycle repeats..

Same here. Chica is 1 year old +. She can move when she eats! But after that, for two days or so, barely nothing. Then, she comes out of her hide and pokes around. By friday or saturday she roams the cage and I know she is ready to eat. She eats once a week.
If she ate, has a full belly, and a warm spot, forget it, she ain't going nowhere....
I take it snakes in general are couch potatoes. They move to eat, and then thats about it. Since you feed her, no need to hunt. Oh, Chica will also leave her hide when she poops and wants me to clean it up. I can't blame her.
I have a young one (Mambo) who does move a little more, back and forth from the hot side tot he cooler side, once or twice a day.
None of mine have ever soaked on their own. If I soak them they do move quite a bit.

The Life and TImes of the Boa,
Mine usally only move around when they make the pee rocks usally a few days after they feed, and they come out when they poo in the corner ( mine seem to always go to the same corner Litter trained?) I put extra papper in the poo corner for them to mess up, they don't get to excited other wise I usally leave them alone for a couple days post feeding .. then I drag them out for excercise I usally get more than them trying to keep them out of trouble my guyana stuck her head thru a deck chair eeek its stuck in the chair.... I tried to get it un-stuck and then she went straight for the roses,,, jeeze wiz them rose's bite..
so I make sure we are several feet from any danger on the deck.when shes on me for excercise ..
she's always looking around for something to do. I think she like to get out of the cage though,, even my grumpy little hog island enjoys getting out and they all thrash about when I try to put them back in the cage.

Hey its the highlight of my life draggin al the snake out on a warm day in the back yard.

Have fun take your snakes out a couple times a week its good for them and you..
Just look out for them rose bushes..
dreaded bitting roses ( hurt more than a med Burm)
