Yeah Rottie is right sprayed around the room you would be surprized what you will find dead (bug's)! So far I've seen it kill just about every bug that encountered it!

The quickest thing I have found for ticks on a snake is tweezers.
If you kill the ticks while they are still attached to the snake, you have to pull them off any ways.
If you don't then you have a chance of the bite becoming infected when the ticks bodies start to decay.
Decay + chemicals isn't a good thing to me.
Just an opinion.

Actually I was looking for a chemical that would basically make them "drop off". When I dig them off with tweezers I worry about leaving parts of the tick in the snake. I've removed several ticks from snakes before, but now I've got about 15-20 to remove from 3 snakes...this is gonna be a pain.

My snake hasn't had any mites or ticks yet, but I would like to get some Black Knight ahead of time also to spray around the house. Where can I get some? Is online cheaper?

Egad, did you guys just call ticks "insects" & "bugs"?
One of the easiest & cheapest ways to deal with ticks is to coat them with Vaseline. Their grip isn't nearly as tenacious after they die.

Ken,
I guess I'm thinking that the vaseline will be rendered ineffective as the snake slithers around it's enclosure. I also wonder if there are any harmful properties on board if the snake ingests some of the vaseline (rub in waterbowl, etc).
Any help is appreciated,
Steve

Where is it that all of these people get ticks and mites? I know that mites can come from bad substrate and other snakes, but otherwise how can you get them? And ticks??? Where do those come from other than another snake? I have enough faith in you guys to know that you probably would have isolated a new snake long enough to check for these things, so where else do you get them? Dogs and such?
Just pondering

the ticks i have came from 1.2 snakes that are fairly recent imports from africa...unfortunately the guy who i bought them from didn't detick them.
Fortunately i do have them quarantined, but I still have to remove about 20 ticks...yuk.

Ok, thanks for the answer. I was worried that perhaps there was some new breed of flying tick whose only purpose in life was to make herp handlers miserable. Also, what's all this about vaseline... wouldn't that get kind of messy?
All replies are appreciated.

i like thinking of removing ticks as a "test of patience" always keeps me busy for about 25-30 minutes sometimes more on customers with w/c balls

Although my snake has had no ticks or mites yet I would like to get some Black knight to be prepared and also kill some of the bugs starting to enter the house since it is the season. I was thinking of ordering a case. If anyone would like to split it with me let me know, I would only ask the price I paid plus shipping. There is 12 in a case and its cheaper than buying single cans.

I know, right? Not an entomologist in the bunch.
For shame. You fellows should learn your arthropods.
