Baby HogNosed Snake Regurge
I have a friend who got a small Hog Nosed snake about a week and a half ago.
When she arrived she had fairly saggy skin and seems very tiny
She ate a f/t rat pink after about 4 days but regurged it a few days later. She also had a bowel movement and it was really runny and spotty.
Temps are 77-85.
After she regurged, I advised my friend to move the snake to an isolated room, and figured it was stress...but its been a week now. I also advised the addition of benebac or pedialyte and he has some kind of reptile eloctrolyte additive for the water. Shes been left alone for over a week, and was offered another rat pink again, and refused. I figured Id ask for some advice, since its a baby snake. I suspect parasites.
When my friend contacted the seller of the snake after the regurge he blamed it on the substrate (aspen) because it has dust that bothers the snakes. (First I heard) and said it must be something my friend was doing wrong..My friend has quite a bit of experience with snakes, and is at a loss.
Oddly we cant find any ads on Kingsnake now, and the seller had been posting ads left and right... Also they arent responding to emails now.

Don't hognoses have a problem with regurging anyways? Or is it that they are just hard to get to eat?

I agree with Louise. I would get a fecal done asap. One of my boas went through the same thing when I got her and it's amazing how quickly things progress when they are babies. I almost lost her. I wish your friend luck.

Plus she said it has runny poop. Even if they were known to regurge runny poop is.'t a good healthy sign.

This just warns us to be careful who we buy animals from.
Something I learned some time ago is the "sympathy trick". It's really very subliminal, but when you want something really badly you try to find all the reasons for getting it and hide the reasons for not getting it. Of course one of the reasons for not getting is if it is sick. But yet - this is also a reason for getting it, right??? Take the poor little thing home and rescue it from that insensitive seller. Then the trouble starts, and you realize what you are in for...a trip to an expensive vet and maybe weeks or months of worry. This happened to me already.
I agree with Louise, the snake is sick and needs a vet, and I agree about the parasites.
Hope everything works out OK for the little snake, and the new owner!

Well the screwy thing is: The seller is now saying my friend "must have done something wrong, and the snake has a severe RI..It must be the set up."
Which is truly ludicrous. This is NOT the first snake my friend has had.
The snake is not clicking or wheezing, nor is it open mouth breathing, but it was showing signs of something like dry heaves. I believe the snake will be visiting the vet this week I told my friend Id get a copy of what the vet says about the snake and Id send that bill to the seller.
Also this snake is supposed to be a yearling, and is only about as big around as my pinky and about 9-12" Sound like a yearling to you guys?
BTW Baby hog nosed snakes are just adorable!
