This is for anyone who has a large snake, like 10' or more...
DO you still get your snake out for playtime, or is he/she now on 'permanent display'? Not counting feeding time, of course. I've got a while to go before I find out for myself, so I just thought I'd ask the pros

As long as you always have help close by and I mean in the immediate area, they can be handled no matter how big they are. Anything over 8' should have asistance or atleast someone close by. You never know!!! the snake that grew up 5 years with you from a hatchling could smell your dinner on you one day and figure your food. Doesnt happen often but It Does Happen. Also Learn the snakes body postures. I just took in an 11' Yellow Anacoda, I'm feeling her out now little by little.

Ed has this one dead blank. There is no snake that is so large that it precludes being handled. It is imperative that you have someone nearby b/c a snake that big can easily overpower even the most hearty of individuals. That does not mean that they will, but they can. I don't think that can be stressed enough.
If you don't take proper precausion you endanger the hobbie for all the rest of us. I'm not jumping your case...just want any future person that reads this thread to understand the levity of the situation.

There's a difference between a danger, and a hazard. a danger is somthing that we don't know much about, and can hurt us without warning. A hazard is somthing that we know about, and can avoid being hurt by (snake keeping). as long as you know the risks involved, and how to protect your self, you'll be alright. yes, I agree, anthing over 8' should have another person there with you to handle it. and everything should be handled, regardless of size as long as it's safe. -Juggalo

It's fluffy!
Man, if I could get a 24 foot retic as tame as Bob's, I would jump at the chance.

I think regular handling probably lessens the chance of anything going wrong with a big snake, actually -- the snake you only interact with for feeding, cage cleaning, or occasional health care stuff may not trust you as well, and may be more likely to get defensive. I wouldn't keep anything I couldn't handle regularly -> I wouldn't handle anything I wasn't prepared to handle safely, i.e. with other people present -> I wouldn't select in the first place a snake that is likely to ever get too large to be regularly handled in my household. Big snakes need love too...

Like everyone else here has said.. long as handling is done with others avilable to help if needed for the large snakes.. It shouldn't be a problem at all.
As for your question.. ALL my large snakes get handled and have playtime..AND not just when we have to take em out for feeds either.
