naturally, i have two problems going on at the same time
1. my rtb grabbed his rat by the wrong end, i tried not to worry, but he's been trying to swallow the f@$*@#g thing for a half an hour, and hasn't gotten past the hind legs!!! what, if anything, should i do? i'm very worried about my baby boy....please help!!!!
2. i also got some breeder/feeder rats today(i know, fingers in too many pies) and when i tried to pick up the male to put him in his new home, yep you guessed it, he freaked out and ended up breaking the tip of his tail. it's still attached, but it did break the skin and it bled a little, is there anything i should do, or should i not worry?
any help is greatly appreciated

Believe it or not, feeder rats can also make great pets. Unless you smell like your snake, which you shouldn't unless you don't wash your hands, you can jut pick them up like a pet hamster. THEY WON'T BITE!!!
That being said, If the tail is still attached, it will heal. Don't worry about it. But, next time, unless your getting ready to whack it, I'd stop getting them from the tail. It will happen every time.
As for the first thing, don't worry. Your boa will come around. Just give him time

I don't know about that Seany....not biting? I wash my hands but when I picked a rat up he wanted to clamp down on my finger.....guess what, he just nominated himself for a quick death and turned into a feeder rat.....

Hi,
I get my feeder rat's from that rodent pro on line their real quiet in the freezer and never bit me or the snakes, heck my royal even likes them
They are so clean and I hear the freezing kills all worms and such and all insects if present, My snakes have actually shown considerable improvment eating the rodent pro rats my guess is the diet they use to grow rats.
Here's a before and after of a young hog boa

after several feedings

I don't mess with them live for any of my snakes if they don't eat thawed they gonna be hungry.
doug
psps that hog is from the Jeff (Boaphile) group Sears/orange?
C. English sold several of them.. I wish I would have gotten a male from that clutch

Ya one thing I learned very quickly is they learn ht ebest way to eat. The first tiem I fed my baby red tail it ate the fuzzy while it was still alive! The thing was kicking as it went down. The 2nd time I fed it it must have snapped the little guys back cuase it went at it from the side, folded the mouse in half and ate him like that. It would take a long long time, but now he consumes them head firat in only a matter ofminutes.

I just fed my bp a few days ago a freshly whacked rat. While I was
lowering him to Soprano, I lost grip of the rat from my clamps. Anyhow
the #$%^$%^$%^$%^& thing ended #$%^$%^$%^& first to soprano, he bit his back left foot and
wrapped it up tight as #$%^$%^$%^$%^&. Since it was dead there was no problem,
but he still squeezed it until the eyes about popped. Anyhow, he gave
the rat a look, realized he was on the wrong end and quickly corrected
himself. But he put a nice bite on the foot.

hey don't get to stressed about it. My boa once swallowed a adult mouse sideways. She took the mouse head first and when she went to regrip it she decided to go sideways with it. She got it down ( very interesting to watch) in about 25min and didn't have any problems digesting it. so my advice to you is ...don't stress it your snake will be ok, and as someone else said your snake will learn to eat head first sooner or later.
