Spiny Tail Iguana Rescue..
Ok some people contacted me in regards to an Iguana that was left in an empty apartment with no heat, food or water for several days. The owners apparently moved and didnt want him..
I was thinking "Oh wow a green iguana!" As most of you know, Ive been wanting one for awhile..but Im not set up for an adult..They told me it was like a green iguana only black..So I was thinking..WTH? Rock Iggy maybe??
Turns out it was what PetCo classifies as a Club Tail Iguana.
Im not familiar with this species, but I know quite a bit about Greens, can anyone tell me if they are similar in diet?? This guy is dehydrated, and needs to eat ASAP! I have Collard greens, Strawberries, Kale, Cantaloupe, grapes, and some squash..but I want to make sure these are staple foods..Im pretty sure it is, but best not to chance it..
I figured Id try to get him hydrated and fed, and then do a fecal or go on and dose him with some wormer..Im sure he came from PetCo..
Any advice or help is appreciated Thanks!

Quote:
Club tail iguanas are native to Mexico and Central America where they inhabit open forests, rocky slopes, and ruins. These heat-loving baskers are usually found in groups with a dominant male. They can be housed in groups with only one male per group.
Their strongly spined tail is used in defense.
Maximum size: 24-36”
Lighting: Full spectrum fluorescent UV bulbs and a basking light are required.
Temperature range: Day 78°- 95°F Night 62°-83°F Basking area to 100°F
Food: Iguana salad should be 95% of their diet. Crickets, mealworms, and pinkie mice coated in calcium and vitamin powder should be offered 3-4 times a week to complete their dietary requirements. Occasionally, some fruit and flowers can be offered.
Water: A container of clean water should always be available. Occasional misting will provide water droplets for drinking.
Housing/Habitat: An aquarium equipped with an under tank heating pad at one end, a calci-sand or desert substrate, landscaped to simulate their natural habitat. A rock placed under the basking light will absorb heat and provide belly heat to aid digestion. The rock should be placed so that the top spot reaches the high end of the needed basking temperature. Branches for climbing and hiding places in both the cool and the warm end of the enclosure are needed.
