i just bought a baby retic.
i do not feed it in its cage.
i do hold it a lot.
but when i try and get him out he is super vicious.
if i spray water in his cage to make it humid, it atacks the water.
im worried that he will always be like this.
please tell me if i can fix it, because i cant afford it to be 20ft and agressive.
will he calm down.
when i finnaly get him out he is fine.
hes about 39in long
thanks

That is the chance you take with Retics. If you couldn't afford it to be big and aggressive, you should have gotten a different snake.

The best you can do is handle him as much as possible now while it's little and hope he comes around. Some retics just don't come around, they are known for being aggressive.

Hi,
I have a friend who breeds retics, and he is constantly being lunged at and gets nailed every so often. His thoughts are this( they are very aggresive snakes.thats why I like them) I think my friend isn't 100 % ok but to each his own. Maybe its time to re-group and re-think the species you wish to keep. There are some sweet jungle carpets and smaller pythons, I saw a really nice diamond python ,, them retics kind of belong in a rather large zoo.Heck Ive seen two year old burm that could eat a couple rabbits at a feeding. and they were fairly large snakes that 8 ft cage was full. finding them neonate pigs is hard to find and kind of expensive for them retics big appetites. whoops where's the kids and spot????

retics are known for these behavior traits, and lunging etc go with the territory. i have several boas and like the species-but all snakes have the possibility to bite. etics are beautiful and attractive snakes.handling them on a daily basis is a good place to start. but if you feel intimidated by this one maybe you might want to get yourself a more managable snake, burm.jcp..etc.
just my .02 worth

Since I assume you just got it. Most large Boids get possesive of their space. Males especially. My Burm is still like that after 2 years. Hate to say it but you knew this going into buying a retic but you went and did it anyway. Hopefuly you either have someone that will be able to help you handle it later, and also hope no small children are in the house. Yes a 20' Aggressive snake is not a pleasant thing. Keep handling and pray allot.
