WTF law is that?? I wonder if anyone told the snakes in the wild that??? LOL I mean, TECHNICALLY it is better for you captive snake to eat F/T..But good grief!! LOL The lawmakers have WAY too much time on their hands..
He looks so tiny, but I dont believe he is too thin yet...
What all methods have you tried to get him to eat???
Maybe we can find something you havent tried yet..?

young boa
Hi have had the boa two weeks temp is 82-83 cooled side warm side is 87 was told to up it to 90.Size is 15 inches , 60 watt reptile heat bulb and undertank heat pad. 2 t-rex temp gauges 1 at each end and 1 t-rex humidity gauge.2 foot L 1 1/2 F width and 1 1/2 depth.Wood chip as substrate.Boa does not use hides just curls round one of the gauges ,I have three hides plenty of branches large water dish. When i lift him out he is a bit hissy but very active a lot of tongue flicking have tried braining young fuzzie/ tapping him lightly on nose he does strike at it but lets it go and then starts to hiss very loudly, getting mixed advice ,some say feed him live food and some say always frozen- thawed i have 3 ball pythons as well. I live in northern ireland and find it hard to get live prey, pet shops refuse to sell it to you say its against the law,
ask the person i bought it from, for records of shedding and feeding last week he said he couldn`t find them and walked a way was told by the assistant few days later he only had the snake 3 days it came in a reptile order with other snakes before i bought it so he didn`t fed it , just refuses to eat have tried to fed him 3 times and have not handled him alot i have been given plenty of ideas none of them work just does not take the food, don`t like to try to much might make things worse sorry to keep asking for help but this is my first boa and starting to get a bit worried as i here boas loose weight faster than pythons thx

Okay, I saw some of your other post. Sorry. Young boas are not as notorious as balls for not eating, but it isn't unheard of. Mine spent the first year of her life making me guess.
Are you making sure the rodent is warm when offering? Have you left it in there overnight and she still refused? You can also try chicken broth and see if that starts up a feeding response. Has she defecated and have you had a parasite check? Parasites could cause loss of appetite also. You can also try to use a non-loose substrate and try feeding directly in her enclosure in case it is movement that is making her stressed and not eating. If not parasites I'm willing to bet it is stress and she is not feeling comfortable to eat. Give her at a minimum four days and try again. Try to offer food both ways, by dangling and even just dropping it in there without dangling. My little boy didn't like the dangle and it only stressed him out. He would eat when just layed on the floor and give him his own time. The other one I had would only eat if she got her strike and constrict just right. Three weeks seems like a long time without food and I know the stressfull feeling. We'll get your little girl eating.

Can't you just go into a petstore and buy a rat or mouse without telling them it is to feed to a snake. Just act like you're getting a pet. If you have a couple pet stores in the area you can alternate between the stores you go to. Chances are they won't remember you if you're only there once every 2 or 3 weeks for each store.

David first off offer a rat instead of a mouse Boas tend to prefer rats to mice. Plus a mouse fuzzy isn't even going to fill up his mouth much less his stomach. Here is you an Idea that seems to work pretty well. Wait 5 days get a f/t rat fuzzy and a brown paper bag. Place snake and rat in bag and leave overnight (closed up in bag) dont worry about the snake he will have plenty of oxygen. Some snakes can be hard to get feeding but if you find the right combination they quickly can turn into hogs!
