I used a bunch of different stuff, the one thing IMO that works the absolute best, takes no drying time, stronger than any glue, will NOT be toxic to any herp gaurenteed........ ext....... is zipties!
BTW, not sure if hot glue is toxic. does it work well on plastic? -Juggalo

for the next one ya make, try cutting little holes all around the cuttout top, then put the screen on and ziptie it down, it's quick, cheap, strong as heck, and non-toxic.

You can also cut the screen about an inch larger all around the hole and use some short bolts with washers. That way if you ever do want to place a heat lamp over it there is no worries of melting and it will be strong as all he11.

I use pop rivets. yes even through plexiglass. and when i use plexiglass i seal it to the rubbermaid with marine grade silicone and let it air out for a couple days before the animals go into the cage.

Learned this from Jesse. But get a drill and drill holes around the area you plan to place the screen. Then simply use 1/4" cable ties to secure the screen. Hot glue isn't going to hold the screen down and will probably come off the first day. Happened to me when I tried hot glue.
