Okay...this morning I went to change out the rainbows water....came back with clean bowl and moved the two hides we have in the tank. We have TWO rainbows and I am missing one. I am not sure how Dotti (MIA) got out...but I have looked in the room we have the snakes in and I can't find her. I have blocked off the closet door and am going to block off the room door. I am afraid she could be ANYWHERE in the house. I know she was there at 10pm...I put her back in the tank after trying to feed (she wouldn't eat) and I know I unlocked the cage this morning to get the water out. She just ate two fuzzie rats last week so she may or may not be too hungry. And I believe she may be getting ready to shed...she shed a month ago right before I got her. I'm not telling hubby about our missing slithering escape artist because he is out of the country and I WILL not worry him because there is nothing he can do....so....any ideas??? The rainbows stay on the cool side of the tank so I don't know if she would be trying to find somewhere warm....Of course she is pretty little...only about a year old...so any ideas would be VERY helpful....or at least some luck in finding her. I thought about putting a rat out on the floor in the snake room but I don't know if she would even care since she didn't eat last night. I am very FRUSTRATED right now!!!!!

Be sure to check any closet's and pile's of laundry that may be lying around?? I know the feeling of having one of your little friend's make a break for it!!! Espically small one's that could go anywhere!!

I thought my corn snake had somehow escaped last night (his tank top has 6 clips to hold it down), until I noticed about 2" of tail on the Aspen behind the water dish...the little bugger had burrowed completely under except for the last 2 inches of him.
I assume the missing BRB isn't under any substrate? Escapees are always difficult to find while looking for them. Once you stop looking, they seem to turn up...not a very appealing solution I know.

well...still haven't found her....I was wondering if I should try this....I usually keep the house at like 75...what if I drop it the temp to below 70. We keep the vent in the snake room closed so it stays warm in there....so I will keep it closed...while I continue my search. Grrrrrrr...if she wanted to be out an about she should have said something.... well back to my search.

I had a BRB get out on me several years ago. If your snake room is near a bathroom, or anywhere humid, check there first. Then go to the standby of destroying everything that may look like a hideout to you. Without question, your BRB will have found somewhere else to hide, somewhere you would have never thought to look. Get low to the ground and look around, but don't forget to look up too. One of my hog babies climbed to a wire shelf that is about one foot from my ten foot ceilings. That was a chore! Look for cracks between the door and the floor, look for dark areas in plain sight, look for things along the baseboards.
Good Luck, I know firsthand the horrible feeling of having an MIA snake.

I know with my brb, as soon as I think that it's missing...it's sitting underneath the aspen, deeeep down. It may not be that way, but it may be an idea to check out.

Oh man, that sucks dizzy! I would look under couches, and chairs really well. put flour down at the base of all your walls, if the snake is moving around, you can track it if it goes into the flour. keep us posted! -Juggalo

~whew~.....our mia rainbow (I originally thought Dotti was out...but it turned out our male was the escape artist) is safely back in his cage. My daughter saw him slithering down the hallway this morning. He was cold but no scratches or cuts....just cold. First thing he did when he got back in his cage was go into the waterbowl. And I am pretty sure he escaped when I changed out the water in their waterbowl....the old standby---I only turned my head for a second---okay it was about 10 minutes...and he had to have gotten out then...I am at least glad I checked the hides then...I wouldn't have known he was gone otherwise. But the rainbows are NEVER out during the daytime so I thought leaving the lid off would be okay....well there isn't a never is there? So I have learned my lesson....the cage will always have the lid on from now. I just hope he didn't poop anywhere. And yes....I did tell hubby....he was not happy with me...but.....well he initially told me I should not have told him and said would have been better to tell him I was having an affair...not that one of his babies was missing. He is out of the country right now....and won't be back until next month....so I am glad the snake gods gave me a second chance. Yay. Otherwise my name would have been M-U-D.

You should tell him well as long as you gave me permission.
Glad you found him. Just when you think the snakes are resting peacefully. Little do we realize they plotting escape routes all the time. It's a conspiracy I tell you!!!

Glad to hear ya found your snake.
I have learned that snakes are oportunists, they will wait until you turn your back before doing something like this. THey never really try it when you are watching.
