Dermatitis??
Lo mates.
I have a friend who has The day before yesterday got a boa C from a person who did not want it anymore.
My friend is very happy about the snake.
But when i went to see it today i
saw some nasty wounds on the boas "downside"?
I thougt it was Dermatitis but i am not certain.
What could it be if it`s not Dermatitis?
If it is Dermatitis How do we cure it?
(sorry for my bad english hope you understand anyway)

Dermatitis is a broad term that just means a "skin infection or irritation" It can be caused by many different things but usually is bacterial. It can also be caused by thermal burns. A topical antibiotic ointment applied daily and keeping the animal on a very clean substrate such as newspaper or even a plastic tote with no substrate for a while will usually clear it up. You won't usually see any marked improvment until the next shed...but since the skin is irritated, he will go into an immediate shed cycle anyway so the wait is short for that. IF there is oozing puss coming out of the wounds, the infection could require some injected antibiotic. Baytril given at 10mg/kg for the first dose followed every 48 hours for 4 more doses at half the original dose (5mg/kg) has a fairly high success rate at clearing it up. If the infection is severe and left untreated with antibiotics, it can turn into septicimia and wipe out pretty much any or all of the major organs and kill the snake. If it's a mild infection, often it will clear it's self up at the next shed but still a good idea to rub a little neosporin..or other antibiotic creams. The best is silvadine if you happen to have any. It requires a Rx though so it's not something you can just go pick up. Good Luck.

Many tnx for the Quick reply mate.
I have just one more Q for now.
Can he feed the snake or will it lose more than he gains on it?

If he will eat, no reason why he shouldn't. If you burn yourself or get a rash, does it kill your appetite or need for food?

Lo again
Now the boa has started to shed.
But of course it will not shed i one piece.
A lot of it`s shed is stil hanging on it`s body.
It`s probably because there is no moisture in there.. How do he get rid of it`?

Soak him in a tub for about 30 minutes. Sometimes if snakes have skin problems it'll take 2 or 3 sheds before they actually shed all in one peice. Anyway, the best you can do is soak him for a little while and let him chill out. Make sure his humidity is okay. His body should regulate. If you're still having trouble I'd try using some Aloe Vera or something to moisturize and get water underneath that dead skin.

Yeeesh! That is bad.
What were you housing this snake on? And what type of heating did you have in there? Almost looks like a severe burn to me...

Yepp tha`t was bad. But the snake don`t have to suffer anymore!
No nothing like Burn damage. The Snake was on newspaper And the heater was a heatmat Who was not to warm (on the outside under the tank) and a Strong Lightbulb (also outside the tank)
Noone knows how he got it back.

I would say it didn't just happen over night. It didn't just appear one day. It would have started to show back up over a period of days if now a week
