Uh oh...My boa got bit!
Well I've always fed my red tail boa fresh killed, and never had a problem. I went out today and got an appropriately sized rat, brought it home and whacked it. It was perfectly still, and I let it sit on the counter for a few minutes while I prepared my red tail. I washed my hands real good and put my little boa in her feeding tote, and then dropped the rat in there. The rat just layed there, just like it was dead. As soon as my boa went to strike, the rat woke up. My boa struck and wrapped like always, and everything seemed ok. But, when she unwrapped, I noticed the rat had bit her. She was coiled around the head, and as she uncoiled, it was obvious the rats bottom front teeth were sticking in her. This is on her belly, about 5 or 6 inches from her mouth. There was a little discoloration, but no bleeding. I'm positive the teeth were in under the scales. What can I do? I've never had this happen before, and I feel so bad! I put her back in her cage after she ate, and looked at the bite a little. It doesn't look real bad, but I know any bite isn't good. I didn't want to try to get a picture, cause the last thing I want is for her to throw up the rat from stress. Any help is huge!
