New to THIS forum...question
Hello all! I am a newby to this forum, but have been at repticzone.com for a while now. I was doing some research on protozoic parasites and google brought me to a thread from here. Some of you really seem to know what you're talking about. I have a new RTB, Maynard, that just came back from the vet with A FEW parasites in it's stool. My DVM is a good guy and has told me not to be overly concerned. I was given Metronidazole/Panacur to give orally once a day for three days and then once a week for three weeks. Today is the third day of his first meds. I plan on sterilizing the tank after his meds, today. My question is, how good are these meds? Should I be confident enough in them to just give him the meds and trust they have done the job? Give him another check-up in a few weeks (will probably do that anyway)? I heard that raising the temps on the warm side to 95-99 for 1-2 days will help kill the parasites. Are there any suggestions or additional info that I should know of?

Haa..I dunno about all that. I guess I have just had a lot of wormy rescues over the years. Our dog just had a small case of coccidia..That was a first.
I answered the PM...but yah...sounds like a good plan and the wormers prescribed are pretty much the standard snake wormers that cover about anything that can get in the intestines. Risk is minimal for dehydration to an outwardly appearing healthy animal. If your snake is shrivled up and poor looking, you need to hydrate first or it will kill him....or it may be too late either way. Doc didn't tell you the names of the parasites he found? If nothing else, morbid curriosity should spark that qustion. BTW...If you really like this vet and are convinced he knows his snake stuff...please click on the link in my sig, join my forums and add him to the exotic vet boi. We are collecting exotic vet info/referals for as wide a coverage as we can manage. It could be a valuable tool someday for people to scroll through vets and find a good one in their area that people have had actual experience with and not just some vet that got listed just to be listed.

This is my first day on this forum and it's set up nothing like the one that I'm used to. Instead of clicking on your link and andding him to the bio, I'm going to give you the website. He's a great guy who really cares about the animals brought in. He is the founder of a local rescue shelter for exotics. I HIGHLY recommend him for any Memphis, TN locals! Check this site out, Dr. David Hannon is a very personable and knowledgable guy! http://www.vetpets.net/

Thanks but...The way the vet BOI forum is setup, I only want personal experience listings...not hearsay...so I can't break my own rule by listing someone else's vet I've never met lol. If you want to help out sometime just go to snakehook.net and join. It's free. I'm not just spamming my site either I promise. It's small and more pinpointed onto field herping and conservation...not much of a pet forum.

gotcha...I'll do that. I saw that you're in Atl, do you know of any good breeders between Atl and Memphis? I know of one in some town called Sneedville,TN but I mapquest-ed it and it's in the middle of nowhere 6 1/2 hours away. Maybe Birmingham or something?

Do not ever do that. High temps like that will cause major long term issues with your snake.
