i know that a fluroscent bulb isn't neccesary for my redtail but i had a extra fixture laying around and i heard that it would be benificial. is a full spectrum light with 8% uvb to much? its suppose to be for dessert should i replace it with a 2.0 or 5.0 bulb? how long is the bulb good for uvb light? i heard 6 months from a questionable source. thanks

Getting those # of posts up Talon? hee
Anyways, as far as UVB bulbs, I have not heard of them having any real positive
or negative effects on boas.. I have a 5% reptisun UVB bulb in with my pastel female
but to be honest I barely turn it on. (she has an incandescent light too..) UVB bulbs only
produce the UVB wavelengths for approx. 6 months if used every day... they will not burn
out when the UVB is gone, so it's a good idea to just replace them every 6 months either
way. Of course, for a snake who doesnt' really need it, it won't matter if the UVB is gone
but the light is still working. Do you understand what I am trying to say? lol I can get
confusing sometimes. Anyways, I don't think it will hurt your snake to use it, but it's
not necessary. (BTW, not all bulbs that say they produce UVB really do.. just FYI...
repti-sun and vita-lite are supposed to be two of the top brands for UVB output)
