Help Fire Bellied Toad questions.

Weeell . . . here's the story.

I work at Petsmart (NOT Petco), as one of their Pet Care specialists. So I know the basics about the animals we carry, but not detaisl and how to fix some problems. Also, I have a pretty good base knowledge of snakes, some knowledge on lizards . . . but very little on frogs and toads.

Anyway, today a lady brought in a fire-bellied toad that had been a class pet. Apparently, they'd been feeding it frog/toad/tadpole pellets, and it'd been eating well, but the teacher said it seemed like it was starving to death anyway. She was trying to find someone to adopt it, since she wasn't sure if it was beyond saving or not and really didn't want it to die in front of the kids.

It's so hard for me to turn down animals that need my help that I said I'd take it in and do what I could for it. The first thing we did was offer a few small crickets - she ate one, but it took her a while to catch it, and she was kinda . . . not into hunting them down. Listless. Then before I left work for the night, I cleaned out her water, gave her some new fresh water with the reptile water cleaner stuff in it (dechlorinates, adds . . . some kinda vitamin, helps with protective mucous).

She's in a little Kritter Keeper type home (too small, I know. But I want to see if she lives the week out before buying a more suitable home). Piled pebbles and a big rock on one side filled about 2" deep with water. The aquarium in my room always read around 80 degrees, and the heater NEVER runs, so I figure it's about that warm in there for her, too.

I know to change her water at least twice a week or she can toxify. I know they're insectevorous.

So, what can I do to help my little girl out? Should I just feed her live crickets? Could I give her a mix of Can O' Crickets and Meal or Wax Worms? Try the toad pellets some more?
