Thinking of changing from newspaper to ?

Its starting to get cold which means humidity will plummet..I use newspaper in most my snake cages. I had a bad experience with Cypress mulch. First I have to keep it outside and it freezes solid in winter then there was the weird insects(lots of them) that hatched in my corns tank..Then there was the mites...not sure if they came from a branch or the cypress but they spread to all my cages...Anyway I dont really like newspaper it gets all messed up in the cages and when they poop it just sits there on top.Plus there is the humidity issue. I need it to be rather inexpensive I have 3, 4x2 cages plus a 3x2 and 2, 20gal tanks to fill..I can drive 2hours and use 20.00 in gas to go get giant bags of Aspen for 13.00 a bag at petsmart. My dh says that is not cost effective...Any Ideas? Or should I just stick to free newspaper and mist like crazy all winter?

Here is a link to Tractor Supply. http://www.mytscstore.com/default.asp I like newspaper the best. When they poop on it just clean it right away instead of leaving it there for a few days.

Take care
Tom

I use indented kraft paper, it does not get soggy like newspaper. It is really absorbs moisture well and dries fast. If I'm at work and my large boa has urinated, by the time I get home it is dry. If I use newspaper it wont hold moisture at all.
