Both are good suggestions. But I believe you need info on rinsing the dust and dirt out, correct? If so, this is what my company has been doing for years with no ill effects. And we use cypress mulch in all of our cages.
1. Try to find cypress mulch with no additives (very important) like pesticides or fertilizers.
2. Get a plastic tub (Rubermaid) big enough to hold twice the mulch you want to clean.
3. Put mulch in tub and fill to top with water.
4. mix thoroughly with hands or pitchfork or whatever, just make sure you really mix it good.
5. Remove the mulch that is floating after about an hour and place on an old towel or tarp of some kind. Make sure it is in the sun or a garage. It dries prett fast in the sun.
6. Spread it out as evenly as possible. Let dry.
7. Put it in a plastic bag or another Rubermaid container to store it.
You can
toss whatever water and gunk in your Rubermaid into your flower garden, or in the woods. It is a great fertilizer.
Then, adjust the moisture in your enclosure as needed with a spray bottle or whatever.
