Infection
My redtail was bitten about a week or so ago by my other redtail, on her head. Now the scabs are clearing up but her scales on her head and the beginnings of her back are coming off a little and there are some red spots on the bottom of her head and a few around her lips, partially in her mouth. Does anyone have any idea what that might be or what I can do to help treat her?

It's hard to tell without seeing it, and even then, the best advice is probably to get her in to a vet. Infections can lie dormant for a while and reappear later, so even if you get this cleared up you'll still have to watch it for a while.

My treatment for any funny external things like that is to dilute some iodine, dab it on with a Q-tip, and then dab on polysporin. I am a little cautious about the iodine. If the red spots are open, I'd ask someone else before using it, but with skin problems, as long as the boo-boo is not deep, that combination has worked wonderfully for me. It cleans up yellowed scales, pulled/raised scales, it cleared up a little cut looking thing my bp got under his mouth once(I have no idea how). When I first got him there was white chalky looking hard stuff stuck in between his scales on some spots- it fixed that. I heard it is effective n treating scale rot too. I have been told that hydrogen peroxide fixes stuff, but I havn't tried it and I don't want to giunea pig my snake ya know.

Oh yeah, try that and watch to see if it reoccurs,if you think that might help. Definately keep a vet in mind. But as long as he's not acting sick or funny- see if you can clear it up. The vet I went to tried to squeeze every penny out of me that they could.
