Hi everyone. well this is my first ball python im new to this snake thing and i had a question about my 2 balls i recently got. They are both babies and when I got them they had eaten a week before and had there first shed 2 weeks before. they ate pinkies i belive and i fed them last tuesday each one hopper ... now they tok it well have been active one is more active than the other. They have drank I saw them. The temps are good I have a heat mat and a light during the day and only the mat at night. Here is my question... How often will balls deficate? i saw a little yellowish ball I think might be poop but it was only one> I plan to feed them again this tuesday. When should I worry about constipation? Also One more question how often will they shed? Is shedding a painful process?? I know these seem like basic questions but I want to do right by my snakes and want to find out all I can. Thanks sooo much....

These are urates. A semi-solid urine equivalent. Feces will be much the same as a mammals.

They should probably start pooin' weekly, give them a
little time to settle .
While they are doin' urates I wouldn't worry about dehydration
unless they start loookin' really wrinkly.
I don't reckon sheding is painful but try not to handle your snakes
after the eyes go cloudy , until they shed.
One being more active than the other is probably quite normal,
snakes are individuals just like us .
And welcome to the site too!!!

My ball just poo'd for the first time in 2 weeks, and it was just urates and a little bit of brown stuff. Balls are known for not pooing often, so I'd be happy when the don't. My juvi has given me 3 inch long masses of p00 before, so I rejoice every day I don't find any=P

I am not sure if you are housing the two together, but if you are you should seperate them. That way it is much easier to tell which one is doing what.

I would have to agree with NYC here...keeping them together just adds more stress to the snakes. I'm not sure exactly how often balls defectate, but from what I've seen w/ my snakes, every 4 weeks seems to be the average amount of time between defectations. The yellow stuff is the solid form of urine that reptiles produce, like somebody else mentioned. As for shedding, it doesn't seem to be a painful process at all. But, being in shed seems to make a lot of snakes a bit more crabby. I would suppose the skin would feel irritating to the snake and the eyes being clouded over makes it hard to see clearly, which doesn't help too much, I would imagine.
