BP Tank Temp.
I am somewhat worried that the temperature of my Ball Pythons Cage, is too low during the night. When I check it in the morning it is near 72 degrees. I have an undertank heater that is always on, and a Heating lamp that is on from 9 - 6. The temperature's seem to be fine during the day, but I just wondered what I could do to keep the tank temp's up during the night. Sometimes I cover the top partially, but that tends to increase the humidity a lot as well. I try to keep the humidity aroudn 50 - 60.
Any Suggestions?
Thank you!

Check it with a digital temp gun. Those little stick on the side of the tank thermometers are about as accurate as Bush's mudslinging campaign.
If you have a heat pad on set to low, there is a good chance that there is a little warm area on and right around the heat pad that may not effect the dial type thermometers much if any. At any rate....temp/humiditywise you got a fairly idiotproof species of snake. They do well at quite a range of temps. Most seem to avoid heat from what I've seen so I'm guessing despite the heat of their native african habitat, the underground burrows where they hole up during the days may be fairly cool. I keep mine with about an 80-85 degree gradient and it all drops to right around 78-80 at night. I would let it drop more but that's about as cool as my snakeroom will ever get.

I am not sure if one should do this but they have lights for night that keep it warm. I use one to keep my baby BP warm . It gives off a red light hardly any "light" but still seems to help the temp. It is also nice cause you can kind of see him still and he is always wandering around at night acting cute.

Whether you should or should not use one depends on how much heat it produces. They need a night time drop from the usual day temps especially if you keep them very warm (upper 80s hot spot) during the day. Most of them stay curled up hiding all day looking forward to the cooler nights when they like to get out and move around.
