snake growth

For about a year and a half I hadn't had much money to feed my snakes rats cause I worked at a funeral home and they don't pay ANYTHING (I thought it would be a good career), and I was only able to feed them rats every month or two. Would this lack of food stunt their long term growth? Red tail boa and a rainbow boa (still relatively small) Red tail is about 4 or 5 feet, and I know rainbows don't get all that big anyhow. I've been concerned about this for awhile now. I have a new job delivering pizzas, and have recently discovered rodentpro.com so feeding them isn't a problem anymore . I bought 50 rats for $111. Comparitively at the pet store it would have costed me $350 for 50 rats. So as anyone can assume I'm happy. Thank you

Rodent pro is cheap... But I really prefeer Big cheese rodent. The rats are vacuum sealed and (to me) a lot cleaner. Not feeding much to a Juvi snake can affect growth, as I have seen. I have observed that young snakes out of the same cluch that feed more readily than others grow larger and faster. A regular feeding schedule is more important to young snakes, than older more etablished snakes.

I have to agree with the Doc. It's similar with children and all living creatures most likely. Young snakes and juveniles have greater needs for it goes into the growth process instead of just maintenance as with older adults. As to whether they will catch up I couldn't really tell you.....maybe others with more experience in this hobby can answer your next question.

Good luck.

You can actually get rodents for cheaper than that. If you go to a reptile show in your area, there are always rodent breeders who have a table set up. They carry all different sized rats and mice. I got a bag of 50 frozen rat pups for 20$. There are definitely shows in Georgia, do a google search to find the next one.
