no such thing as a stupid question.
My suri buries herself in her substrate too. I could be a number of things from thermoregulation to just plain hiding...its funny when she has her head poking out.
My guyana rtb does that too when she's too warm too thou i keep her cage temps at 88/79 and the humitity hovers around 50%.
Im sure someone else has a better idea thou here.

Welcome to the site!
Yes, they love to dig at times.
I was freaked out one day when my RTB Kandy was not in her cage. Only for her to peek her head out. I guess she was hunting and telling me I am scaring stuff away

my rtb's do the same thing if they get too cold to thermoregulate. If you put your hand on the bottom of the glass and it doesnt feel extremely hot to the touch and are able to keep ur hand there for long periods of time, then it's ok, other wise you can most likely put some kind of layer (like newspaper/reptile carpet) between the glass n substrate and that would prevent ur snake from getting fried on the glass when he buries himself.
I was worried too but once I realized it doesnt even get hot enought to burn me (and was able to leave my hand on the glass for a long while) then i relaxed, but if you still dont feel comfortable go ahead and add the layer. just make sure you have a secondary source of heat to maintain proper temps in ur vivarium.

A secondary source of heat? What kind? And where should it be located?
Thanks for the first bit of info.
