Getting Started
Hello everyone!!
In a few weeks I will hopefully be welcoming my first snake into my household. I have it narrowed down to a very awesome looking Mexican Milk Snake at my local excotic pet store.... Can you give me some tips on how to get my vivarium set up for the snakes arrival.
Thank you!!

Here's a link to a basic caresheet for Kings and Milks

Sorry I can't be of a ton of help, not my area of expertise, but they are relatively simple to care for.

how big is the snake? if it is a baby... the best first advice i can give is to get an absolutely escape-proof cage. the second advice is that there is NO escape-proof container for a lil king or milk, but try to get as close as you can.
and are you looking for for appearence with your vivarium or simplicity?

i have a mexican milksnake and as everyone has said they are very awsome escape artists. mine is full grown and i have it in a 10 gal with a screen top and a 60 watt night uv light on it. my temps are about 80 ambient and 85-90 basking i dont have a climbing branch in there because when i did he was never on it. i bought lil castle like the one a fish tank uses as a hide box and he loves it he spends most of his time in there. they are really cool snakes. mine is also very skiddish (i think spelling is right) but after you get it out hes cool. very squirmy. but i like him. good luck and welcome to the site. pm me if you need any help. im also selling mine if you want to buy it.

Thanks all!!! for the advice... ive read the care sheet.. lots of good info...
the one im looking at is still a baby i think.. she's pretty small.. but beautiful colors.. im planing on getting one of the tank tops that have the snap down clamps... to start off i want to keep the viv basic.. im going to get some blank newsprint.. and a couple of hides.. water dish.. the basics to start off.. but if my reading is correct.. milks like to burrow.. so i might get that (sorry not having the correct name of it) the wood chips (the snake friendly ones ) I like the castle idea... hmmmm
thanks again.. Lots of info in here.. for me to check out!!!
