Seeking baby northern water snake advice

Hi, a new guy here. We've been raising a couple of garter snakes for two years with good results. The kids picked up a baby northern water snake at the lake this weekend. It is much smaller than the snakes we have now and I am looking for suggestions on what to feed it. Thanks.

This looks like a very cool site!

You really ought to release the snake back to the wild. The little bit that I have studied up on the Nerodia is that they are a difficult captive to say the least. WC specimens are even more difficult.

Yeah, Watersnakes don't really make good captives at all. They are flighty, bitey, hard to feed and they smell really bad. Your best bet would be to follow Stormy's advice and drop them back off exactly where you found them as soon as possible.
