I know there's going to be different prices for different vets, but how much can someone expect to be charged for a necropsy? -Juggalo

Autopsy I think Jugg's ,can't help you on a price.
Maybe a local university/college would do the service free.
Who died??

a university might be a good way to go for free but you have to make sure you're getting a professor who know's reptiles and diseases and stuff.....they're rare...

Don't know how much it will cost but keep in mind that to be really definitive necropsy's have to be done within about 24 hours of death... at least at work when we have a herp die it has to go to the vets within that time period... If you can freeze the critter you can probably get some information later than that but I don't think the necropsy can be totally conclusive.

Actually.. You shouldn't freeze the animal. You really need to place it in the fridge NOT the freezer in order to get a necropsy done on it. When you freeze it it actually crystalizes cell structuring and makes it impossible to get any clarification on looking at anything when doing mics.

thanks for the info everybody! nobody has died....yet . I posted this the other day just in curiocity, then then just yesterday April's (Juggalettefwb) new BABY beardie started having sezures. bad ones. he has been just fine, totally normal and happy until now, we're sure is some sort of nurilogical damage, his sister is still at the pet store she has been having problems too. just really ironic....one day I ask about it, the next I might need one -Juggalo

Thank you, Lori, for posting about the freezing. I saw that at work and liked to died. I can not post from work. Freezing is a sure-fire way of destroying the tissues.
Autopsy: performing posthumous exam on same species (auto - same) ie: human examing human
Necropsy: performing posthumous exam on different species. (necro - dead) ie: human examing dog, snake, cat, etc. I actullay got to winess a necrospy on a horse (unfortunetly, mine) very messy.

Hi, You are probably going to pay up wards of $200 and then if you need to send in tissue samples(biopsys) and such, a little more. Also, depends on the size of snake.
Hope this helps.
