Hi, I just got a 6 foot RTB and I noticed that she has mites. I was wondering if there is a good way to kill these nasty little things? I also have a ball python in another cage in another room should I also treat him as well. He shows no signs of mites, but I dont want to go back and forth with this things. Should I also treat the room that the RTB is in / if so what should I use.One last question do this thing live on humans?

If you look around on this page, you'll find some sections called care sheets and I believe there is a section in the FAQ

I wouldn't treat the ball python, just make sure you don't let him anywhere near that rtb. Also you can use a lice treatment spray for the room..just make sure you remove any animals from it first while spraying etc ..this would be in the rtb room.

They don't live on humans, but they will bite them. And they hurt when they bite, too!
Good luck getting rid of the nasty little parasites!
oh, and Welcome to RTB!

another thing, don't handle the boa and then handle the python...i think lori kind of was saying that but just to seal the coffin, don't handle one then the other....they'll transfer that way.

Im going to take her to see the Vet that I use and have her checked out for the mites and see if there is anything else I need to deal with....Ill let you guys know how it turns out....Oh and the Ball is shedding and doent like to be bothered so its no problem not touching him.....His cage is on the other side of the house as well so I dont thing they will spreed on there own...I hope anyway...I think Im going to go with one of the two items in the caresheets on getting rid of them and see how it turns out.......Again thanks for the help!!!!!

Let us know how the vet appointment goes. As for the spreading, as long as you don't handle the RTB and then the Ball and there is no contact between the two, the mites spreading shouldn't be a problem. Just make sure you fully clean the cage and the furniture in it to kill any remaining mites that may be around. And thank god for Lori's mineral oil solution. Well I took Angie to the Vet.....She gave her a shot that she said would kill the mites and not make her sick and that all I needed to do was soak everything in her cage in bleach and water 10% bleach....So I soaked everything including her tank for 24 hours.....Ive been soaking her off and on (in just plain water)and all i see are dead mites in the water.....The Vet said that if she has anymore on her the shot will kill them and I need to take her back in 2 weeks for a follow up shot....Im going to soak her one more time before putting her back in her cage and then see if there are anymore on her.....Other than the mites the vet said she is in great health....Again thanks for all the help
