"rocky" my red tail boa
Well we saw the vet yesterday. She listed off a number of things that could be wrong with Rocky.. could be Metobolic bone disease, could be abuse/neglect, she had a few other ideas too, but she agreed that whatever it was, happened, or started a long time ago, and cannot be reversed. she doesnt think he's in pain. They eye caps i thought he had, are in fact cataracts! he is permanetly blind. and the one eye is buldged out because of a current or previous infection, she took a blood sample to see if he had any odd looking blood cells, which could show infection, but gave him some sort of shot just in case. she says that he is probably a snake that moves slow and odd because he is blind. she said about a week we would have the blood tests which might show more, but she suspects that he needs no special treatment at this time. she told me i needed to bring the humidity up... which is odd because its already about 65-70% in his tank.. but i guess ill have to try! ill post again when we get the blood test back, she also offered to do an xray of his back to see if those were infact breaks from abuse .. but because even if they are there is no treat ment for them.. i decided we would stick with the blood tests first.

Re: "rocky" my red tail boa
If the vet said it "could be Metobolic bone disease", they don't know anything about snakes and you need a new vet.

when the infection got behind chances eye they did an emergency surgery. without the emergency surgery she probably would have died through the night. the also lanced her head when it bulged from infection to relieve the pressure. i dont understand how our vets are so different.

Re: "rocky" my red tail boa
are snakes unable to get this metabolic bone disease, morti?
@the op, why didnt you opt for the xrays? i would think if the snake is kinked and/or has fractured bones or whatever that he would in fact be in pain. ive never met anyone with messed up bone structure that felt fine about it, ya know?
sucks that this snake has been through so much, this is probably one of the worse snake keeping scenerios ive ever heard of in my life. really sad.

Re: "rocky" my red tail boa
It's practically impossible for a snake to get MBD. Yes, reptiles can get it, but mainly lizards. If you or the previous owner fed Rocky boneless rodents - it's impossible for him to have MBD.
I wonder the same as to why you didn't opt for getting the x-rays so you could figure out why your snake is so kinked? If they were old fractures that happened to heal weirdly, I'm sure it would be uncomfortable. I broke my right arm several years ago I know severe changes in temperatures my arm still gives me troubles.

yep, spinal deformities put extreme strain on the spinal cord and can cause damage to the disks between vertebrae and lead to horrible infections.

Re: "rocky" my red tail boa
I'm trying to be as nice as possible because I see this going the same way your other thread went.
Do your research. *phew* Thier are newbies on here who haven't even owned an reptile and they could tell you there is something wrong. And why is that? They spend a whole 20 minutes snooping around the internet. Even if you can't believe google or even the experienced people on here how about you look at a book instead of basing all your information from an unskilled vet?
Even better, how about you adopt him out to a person on here who can afford the vet bills and the extra care and start out with a healthy baby?
Unless his previous owner fed him de-boned chicken or something it's extremely unlikely he would have MBD.

From what the vet told me, was the xrays would just confirm breaks in the back bone, or deformities , and either way there wouldn't be anything to do to fix it. so im just waiting to hear what the blood tests told me, cause she didnt see reason for concern. and she ONLY DOES reptiles, and see's plenty of snakes. i see no reason not to trust someone i just paid a bunch of money to see my snake.

Re: "rocky" my red tail boa
when they xrayed chances back they could not do anything for her old breaks. the xrays just showed her back was broke in different spots from a blunt instrument.

well i feel well informed by this vet i learned alot more then what i posted. i just thought i would let everyone know that he did see a vet and such. not looking for a childish argument/debate or anything. send a message to me directly if your honestly interested in finding out the blood results otherwise im not wasting my time arguing with people who have things to say. thanks for those of you who've helped!

the part im having a hard time grasping is how this supposive vet or you are convinced that this somehow is a painless situation for the snake????
from everything you've described in the other thread and this one sounds to me this snake knows nothing BUT pain. plus its blind.... is there anything positive? i feel like im in the twilight zone.

Now I know for a fact that you are a lying troll.
There are not enough reptile owners in your entire state to make a good living for a vet.
I am no longer interested in assisting you in any way. I am only interested in making sure you do no further damage to our community.
PS... Are you the same Snakegurl13 from fauna classifieds?
