That's accuracy a pretty good deal. that also might include the drive time or home call price too.

America does not go abroad in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She well knows that by enlisting under other banners than her own, were they even the banners of foreign independence, she would involve herself beyond the power of extrication in all the wars of interest and intrigue, of individual avarice, envy and ambition, which assume the colors and usurp the standards of freedom. – John Quincy Adams (1821)

did you have the UTH on a dimmer?? i have UTH's under mine and I know those things can get HOT and if they don't have proper breathing room then they can blow or even catch on fire... my carpet is proof of that.... there is a 'bleach' looking spot on one part of our carpet where a UTH didn't have enough breathing space...
I have the UTH under my preggo Bolivian turned almost all the way down because it gets so hot on it's own... when I was first setting it up I figured having them on medium settings would be good... NO! medium settings allowed for a 120 degree hot spot now it's at a nice slightly toasty 91 lol

Re: Very Ill Elderly Snake
Snakes can feel vibrations very well, esp. in glass tanks! In fact, so can we...try it! Voices can be felt, and bass notes in music/tv quite well. When I kept rattlesnakes, I noticed on more than one occasion they'd start rattling (several rooms away) when I accidentally closed a cupboard door kinda hard in the kitchen, and that house was not tiny! Snakes may be technically 'deaf' but respond to vibrations.

that's pretty expensive from what I've seen o.o I pay a $45 exam fee for my snakes when they get seen... plus any tests and meds if needed...
I'm starting to think Texas is pretty cheap for a lot of stuff >.>
I've heard of necropsies and pathology running $500+ from some ppl... the couple that we had done were $100 for necropsy and about $80 in tissue samples for the ones we did that on... I will do those for any animal we ever lose... I feel that it is invaluable information and could rule out anything possibly bad... when I lost my Burm recently I didn't know what the heck happened... found out she was malnurished as a young snake and suffered from liver issues and fat build ups from previous owner(s)... I got her as a 3 year old Burmese at only 7 feet... she was on a perfect diet while I had her of rabbits and some big ol rats, but even with proper care, previous neglect of proper care got to her really sucks when you lose and animal from something you couldn't control

LOL, I wouldn’t recommend it, even I am moving a couple of states away soon.
To be fair though in regards to pricing Jasper was only fifteen inches long and 33 grams when he died; I am sure it would have been more costly if he’d been a larger variety of boa like a BCI. I truly miss that snake.

And the reason i don't do under the tank heaters are they burn up rather quick, i dont find it cost effective... and as long as the tempatures on the ground (where the snake is) are the proper temps.. i dont see a problem in the world with heat lamps... mine are on the outside of the tank, spaced from the lid.. No burns! There are diffrent ways to Raise, and love your snakes... and i choose to use the heat lamps! Thanks tho.

snakes feel vibrations and i believe 100% they know their owners. may it be vibration or seeing them or whatever. i know chance and my DUM follow me with their eyes.

Snakegurl, I've used Flexwatt for decades! It is not expensive and is very safe and durable...and being lightweight, it is easier to install. You cut it to the length needed, follow the directions...(Bean Farm carries it) You need it connected to a lamp dimmer (aka rheostat) or thermostat (better control but higher price). I highly recommend uth heat, as heat works best from the floor up, so the snake's belly can feel it. I have heard of other's having problems with Zoo Med uths...and they tend to overheat! (tried a couple myself! hate them!) They are overpriced on top of that...

Re: Very Ill Elderly Snake
i use human heat pads. they work great and are very cheap. you just have to make sure they are not the ones that go off once they reach their temperature. i use to use zoo med.

Re: Very Ill Elderly Snake
good to see it's going to be seen by a vet. hope it's not too late and something can be done to better the quality of life.
snakes feel vibrations, as already established. im not an accoustic pro or anything but if i remember correctly sound travels via vibrations that are picked up by little hairs/nerves in our ears.
i used zoo med heat pads (actually i still do for a couple of enclosures, the king and leo are setup with them). theyve worked out fine for me. flexwatt is cheaper and more practical (i heat up 8 enclosures with 4 strips and can probly heat up more if i wanted to).
good luck with the snake.

snakegurl,
Glad you have the snake seeing a vet (hopefully rep. vet). Can I ask which zoo you contacted?
Thanks
