Water Bowl
My 2 Month old Red Tail Boa has been in his water bowl alot lately Fully Soaking. No mites I have checked The Humidity Levels are at about 60% and his temps are at about 85 All around the tank during the day and It drops to about 81 at night. anyone else have a Boa that does this alot? He has been soaking since last night when I got off from work and he is still in there as of right now, maybe he just likes the water? He took a poop in his water bowl the other day maybe he is getting ready to shed? I'm new to Boa's so i'm not too sure of their behaviors yet. I have only had a Python's Before my Boa.

Re: Water Bowl
Apart from the mite issue that is certainly important, that is, it's one way of telling that you must check for mites if your snake is soaking a lot - well, as far as I have seen with my boas and pythons, some of them soak sometimes, some for a short while and some for a day or two. As long as your temperatures and humidity are OK and your boa seems healthy and active I would not worry.
You do need to keep the water clean though, they drink it too.

Re: Water Bowl
He can shed well without soaking, if you maintain humidity. I've always found mites if a boa was soaking. The water dish is too big if he can fit in it because it usually ends up soaking in nasty water with feces.

Re: Water Bowl
Could be he just likes it. My kingsnake will lay in the water dish like that, but then just as suddenly as he started, then he quits. He hasn't done it in a long time. Maybe put yours in the bathtub and let him get a real dip.

Re: Water Bowl
I use mite spray by zoo med I do believe and just spray is whole body top and bottom and spray his whole inclosure and anything u have I'm there I would use newspaper or something like that for a few days along with taking his water out for 2-3days so he doesn't soak and wash it all off. U can get it at a pet store or feed store

Re: Water Bowl
He has Mites I found one of the little buggers today. I pulled everything out of his tank and have him in another tank right now.. Its too late for me to go to the store to get some Stuff to treat him.. I am mad these little buggers are nasty.. I see about 2 on him right now. I just fed him in the other tank. I dont have anything in the other tank I was thinking about using some newspaper until I can get to the store tomorrow.. I pulled his water dish Dumped his bedding and but his water bowl, Climb, and anything else in his tank in a trash bag until I can Treat it.
