Help Odd RTB behavior:

I have a red tail boa that has had a few health problems since I got her. She was almost dead when I got her, you could run your hand down her back and feel every rib and she couldn't even hold onto me. I've had her for over a year now and she has doubled in girth, but only grown 2 inches. She ate 2 rats over a week ago, I fed her another yesterday. She started biting herself, starting at her tail then working towards her head, then back to her tail. She wasn't breaking the skin, just biting and releasing... anyone ever seen or heard of anything like this before?
I have pics, but it won't let me put them on here, they're in the wrong format, lemme know and I'll forward them to you if you need to see.

I have! A wild caught Western Longnose snake, that ate like a pig, then went belly up from parasites that suddenly (numerically) exploded! Have you treated for parasites???? Sorry to say I think she's in big trouble, get help fast!

Re: Odd RTB behavior:

And btw I mean internal parasites, and sure hope I'm wrong....but that explains the appetite with lack of weight gain. Good luck! (that Longnose was biting himself too!)

Re: Odd RTB behavior:

i had my longicauda do that once, it finished and then just kinda gummed itself. i thought it was really weird and he was just getting out of being super thin when i got him now that i think about it. it's been probably 8 months though and no problems since then. i figured my guy just still smelled rat on himself maybe? not really sure, but never did it again

Re: Odd RTB behavior:

Hey guys, thanks for your help. She was treated a few month ago for a bacterial infection, but no parasites. I contacted my vet today and sent him some pics, he told me not to worry yet, she's always acted kinda odd. He told me if she keeps it up to give him a call back, and that she is probably just a little constipated since she hasn't fully passed the other rats yet. So now I'm just waiting, she is back to her normal self tho!

Re: Odd RTB behavior:

Yeah, she's a pain sometimes, but I don't mind trying with her!! She's very testy, sometimes she likes me to hold her, other times she strikes at me before I get the top off her cage, she's very moody, lol!! When she had the bacterial infection I had to give her pills daily for 4 weeks, she was not happy with that at all and I lost a lot of trust that I had built with her so she is very uneasy with me now, I'm still handling her regularly and she's starting to behave a little better now
