Nix... where do I find it???
Hey guys! Xiel just found out that his Dumeril's boa Isis has mites - she was soaking in her water aaaaallllllll day, and, lo and behold, there were little black dots in her water. What I always hear as the best mite treatment is Nix... However, I've only ever heard of it being available at Walmart. We don't have a Walmart anywhere nearby, so I was wondering if you guys know where else they sell it... I'm guessing we could probably find it at some sort of other drugstore like Rite Aid.
Oh, and how much should we dilute it?
Thanks a lot!!!

Re: Nix... where do I find it???
any of the pharmacies should have it... Buy a gallon of distilled water and dump out a little bit of it... Put the entire thing of NIX in there and shake it REALLY WELL... then spray... take out all wood, water, etc... use paper towel substrate... I also sprayed out floors, couches, etc......

Re: Nix... where do I find it???
I have no idea where it came from either...I've read their eggs hatch in 2 week cycles, so it could have come from her bedding I bought at the expo a week and a half ago...could they have lived on her in some form or another since i got her a month and a half ago? Cuz maybe this explains why she was sooooo cranky since I got her

Re: Nix... where do I find it???
Also: since I keep Skittles' tub at 85+% humidity, what signs should I be looking for in him if he also has mites? I know black marks on his belly scales, but would he still soak to get rid of them when he is in such high humidity in the first place?

Re: Nix... where do I find it???
Oh yea, bedding is a huge source of mites, specially from a show. I used to bake all of my substrates before changing to newspaper and paper towels. They dont have mites
Rule of thumb, if one has mites.....treat them all as if they have them, because they probably do

Re: Nix... where do I find it???
EVERYONE MUST be treated! Trust me... I had that issue once and never again... Treat everyone and everything, even if you don't see any mites on someone doesn't mean they aren't floating around....
Also, I will suggest, if you go to expos, take some of the Nix spray and spray yourself before and after the shows...

Luckily she was the only one on the aspen bedding that we suspect was the cause of the mites. He's on Eco Earth... However, I got some aspen from the same place, and Cupcake is on it... I will probably treat her as well just in case.

Re: Nix... where do I find it???
Yeah and make sure there is ventalation. Nix seams safe when diluted but it still is toxic if not well ventilated. If you have a large collection, and use natural substrate, try hypoaspis. No risk and the bugs do the work for you.
